The East Blue Hill Public Library is in the heart of the village. Small in size, and rich in history, our public library offers patrons and visitors a unique collection of titles, historic artifacts and a sweet stop in our hectic lives. Features include a collection of local historical documents, a video library,  high speed internet access, and a children’s room. Every Saturday morning, starting at 10:30am throughout the year, the library also serves as a gathering place for village residents and visitors to share the week’s news and to catch up on each other’s lives. All are welcome.

Library News

East Blue Hill House Tour

The Village Improvement Association and the Library Association are planning an East Blue Hill house tour, which will be held on July 29. We are looking for volunteers to help plan the event, as well as volunteers to staff the event. Contact us if you'd like to lend a hand.

New Books in Our Collection

We have added quite a few new books to our collection, with an emphasis on Maine authors, locales and interests. We also have added new titles in fiction, mysteries and poetry. Stop in and check them out!

Maintenance and Repairs

We have been working hard to get the library ready for the summer crowds! Over the winter we replaced some of the shingles, and we are currently repairing parts of the front porch and ramp. This Spring we will be repairing the cracking plaster in the main room of the building, and working on landscaping to prevent traffic damage to our front lawn.

Show Your East Blue Hill Pride

The library is selling T-shirts featuring two vintage East Blue Hill designs. We currently have youth sizes in red and bright blue, and adult sizes in white or navy blue. The shirts are available for $15 at the library.

Great Article on Small-Town Libraries

LiteraryHub: In Praise of Small-Town Libraries
"Frequently, I was the only person in the building, other than our librarian, Viv. I lingered there on drowsy after-school afternoons because I loved the sweet damp smell of paper and glue slowly decaying, because I loved pulling some forgotten old hardcover from the shelves, and because, simply, I loved being in a room filled with books. Two rooms, actually. There was a small-town stillness, an atmosphere of benign neglect inside our little library that suggested the great works of Western lit were mine alone to discover."
